STEPPI, the homegrown fitness platform, reveals record-breaking activity results from the Dubai Fitness Challenge 2021

STEPPI, the homegrown, dual-language health and wellbeing software platform, is delighted to reveal the incredible results of its partnership with the Dubai Fitness Challenge (DFC) 2021.

During its second year as the activation’s official app partner, STEPPI recorded that participation was up by 124% compared to the DFC 2020, with participants being 40% more active across the 30-day challenge period. By offering interesting and varied challenges, individual daily goals and hugely attractive incentives and prizes, the digital engagement brand inspired record numbers of UAE residents to start exercising more regularly,

Running from October 29 to November 27, DFC 2021 asked participants to complete either 30 active minutes, 30 exercise minutes or 10,000 steps every day for 30 days.

By using the STEPPI app to track their activity levels, people were able to join the challenge from anywhere in the country, or even the globe. Providing a totally inclusive way of bringing people together and allowing everyone in the community to experience the joy of exercise, STEPPI invited users from across the globe to join public and corporate challenges and redeem their ‘steps wallet’ against an extensive range of rewards and prizes.

With an incredible 30 billion steps (the equivalent to walking 550 times around the world) recorded on the STEPPI app throughout the challenge, the brand has ensured that digital health and wellbeing initiatives are firmly placed at the centre of Dubai’s pioneering drive to increase the region’s activity levels.

The success doesn’t end there either. In addition to the amazing results of the DFC 2021, STEPPI reached its goal of recording 50 million steps in one day as part of the Landmark Beat Diabetes Walkathon, held on Friday, November 26. Offering an innovative and virtual way of participating in the symbolic group walk, STEPPI invited those who were unable to attend the Dubai-based event in person to simply download the STEPPI app and complete 10,000 steps from wherever they chose in the world.

Further underpinning STEPPI’s commitment to boosting the nation’s health and wellbeing through digital engagement techniques, the brand’s co-founder Milos Savic oversaw the ‘Walk the Talk: The Health for All Challenge’ at Expo 2020 Dubai. Held on Sunday, December 12 and hosted in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO), Expo 2020 Dubai and the UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention, the 24-hour event recorded 13 million steps. Intended to honour frontline health workers and thank them for all their efforts towards the fight against COVID-19, 300 health professionals of all ages and backgrounds donned their scrubs and joined in the walk along with thousands of other residents and visitors from across the globe. Hosted last year in New York’s Central Park, it was the first time that the Walk the Talk event has been held in the Middle East.

Joe Franklin, Co-founder of STEPPI, said: “STEPPI was founded through a passion to improve the UAE’s overall health and wellness and inspire everyone to be more active. Partnering with DFC was therefore a natural fit for us and I’m so delighted that we have been able to leverage our platform and reach more people than any other DFC event has ever managed before. It was fantastic to be part of this project and see how enthusiastically our challenges were received. This was particularly noticeable within our corporate, government and school programmes. We enrolled over 1,300 teams including 830,000 employees and 525,000 students, and I’m thrilled to say that each one was an incredible success from start to finish. Most importantly, we’re confident that many STEPPI users will carry on making exercise part of their daily routine long after the DFC has ended. We look forward to working with DFC to make next year’s event even bigger and better.”

James Miller, CEO of STEPPI,addedAs the world continues to adapt to the changes brought on by the pandemic, including the fact that many of us are further isolated at home and at work, the benefits of virtual health and fitness events are becoming more and more apparent. The STEPPI platform allows us to reach out and connect with everyone, from wherever they are located, and motivate and encourage them to invest more time in their own health and wellbeing. This desire is what we’re passionate about – bringing people together and helping them to feel more happy, healthy, and virtually connected with others, even though they might be physically alone. We have proved that events don’t have to be held in person to build up a sense of community and teamwork. The data from DFC 2021 further emphasises how incredibly powerful our platform is at driving behavioural change on an enormous scale. The hugely positive impact of our year-round corporate wellness programmes is further testament to this. We can’t wait to reach even more people next year.”
