Thought Leader Interview: Tekha Selim

Tell Us About Your Background.

I graduated with a bachelor’s degree in mass communications, and I have a master’s degree in Media Studies. I love reading and learning something new every day. I love sports and I was one of the youngest college instructors in the world.

What Is Your Passion? What Motivates You?

To leave a legacy when I die! When I wake up every morning, I remember that God gave me another day and another chance to do better, to help someone or to be a better person. I want to be remembered for all the great things I have done throughout my life. My family motivates me, I wake up every morning thinking about how I can provide them with the best life ever. Also, I try to challenge myself every day, so my real motivation comes from a simple question, we have 7 billion people on this planet, what will make me different?

What Qualities Do You Believe Are Integral To Success?

To be a student of life! Never think you know everything! Always learn. Also, I love a quote by Eric Thomas which always gets me up at night. ‘When you want to succeed as bad as you want to breath, then you will be successful.’ The reason I love this quote is that I previously had a blood clot in my lungs, so I know how it feels not be able to breath and I remember wanting to breath so bad! So, this quote is perfect for me. Also, people should always be passionate about what they are doing! Passion is key to success.

Tell Us About An Experience In Your Journey Where You Overcame A Challenge. How Did You Turn It Into A Success?

The name Tekha in Arabic means watermelon, and when I was a kid my friends used to make fun of me and of the name because I was chubby, I challenged myself and decided to change my life, so I lost 65 kg of my weight in 11 months, and I formed an organization and called it Tekha Group, which became a noticeable brand internationally as we have done a lot of work with VIPS globally and I personally worked with a lot of influential people and organizations through Tekha Group, so now I am proud of the name.

You Recently Took On A New Role As Vice President Of Global Market Development At Delos, Can You Tell Us More About That?

Four years ago, I met the chairman of Delos Mr. Paul Scialla in California, I told him about my story and about Tekha Group and how my slogan for Tekha Group was to bridge cultural gaps through healthy lifestyle programs all over the world. I remember when I heard him speak about Delos, I was super excited about what he has built. He told me about the healthy building movement and how he built an organization which is trying to help people be healthier indoors. I went to the office in NYC and I was amazed with how beautiful it is. Mr. Paul offered me a job with the company, and I accepted it right away. I had other offers from other multinational companies but from speaking to him I knew I was joining the right company. I joined the company when we were in 36 countries, and I have seen the growth of the movement and now we are in 107 countries globally. I am super passionate about Delos and the WELL Movement. At Delos, I lead the global market development team which is responsible for expanding the healthy building movement in several regions. I introduced the WELL movement in the MENA region in 2019 and helped organize over 50 governmental events and training sessions related to WELL in the region. To date, the organization has over 100+ WELL projects in the MENA region with some of the most prestigious organizations such as, The Prime Minister’s Office, Dubai Police, Majid Al Futtaim, MAG, Expo2020, The Crown Prince’s University (HBMSU), The Dubai Land Department, RERA, IHCC, IMKAN MISR, Honeywell Dubai, ICD Brookfield and more.

What Is Next For You?

I am focusing on my current role with Delos, I am pushing the WELL Healthy building movement to organizations in the MENA region. Personally, I will continue to learn every day and be a student of life. I have a white board at home where at the end of the day I document what have I learned each day. I personally want to see the WELL Standard implemented across every building around the world.
