3 Crucial Lessons from an Entrepreneur’s Journey

Nowadays, becoming an entrepreneur is glamourized and sold as “the dream life” on social media platforms. Everyone wants to do it. The truth that most people won’t admit is that being an entrepreneur is a journey with many ups, downs, and unknowns. The path is a unique one for each individual.  Your confidence will be tested.

Many people interested in this endeavor focus on the end result of the journey and along the path, they get frustrated, confused, and start to question why they even started. The feeling of being overwhelmed kicks in because it is taking over their life.  Let’s be honest, this journey is not for everyone. You must set some foundational practices before taking the dive into entrepreneurship.

Here are some tips that can help you to decide if this is the right journey for you.

1. Be clear on your why. The foundational piece of any business is knowing why you are doing it. Ask yourself the question, “What is the driving force behind my business idea?” Knowing your WHY will get you over the bumps in the road and allow you to release the pressure off yourself and highlight who/what you are impacting.  A good phrase to help you with remember is, “It’s not about me. It’s about the impact I want to create.” If you don’t have a strong why, you might not make it past your first hurdle!

2. Do not compare yourself with anyone. Always remember your value and your worth.  Everyone has their own journey. You might begin to notice successful people doing what you do and immediately your mind will play the comparison game and focus on how great others are. As those thoughts creep in, they will take over and the focus on the bigger picture is affected. Your value and your worth begin to slowly decrease and you can get demotivated. Shifting your focus to your amazing attributes allows you to continue your journey with much more ease.

3. Stay true to your vision. Only take opportunities that align with your vision and your goals. When you start this journey, you may feel like you have to take any and every opportunity presented to you. What you might not realize is that you may make a choice at the expense of losing yourself. Be bold and create boundaries and think, “Does this opportunity align with my vision?” If it does, do it. If it doesn’t, do not feeling guilty that you might miss out.

These tips will help you get through some of the hurdles that will come your way. Make sure you connect with a community that can support you as well. Have the chat with your family because they will need to be supportive in this process. Prepare yourself mentally for this experience and show the world your greatness! The bonus to all this is you will have no regrets. Give yourself a shot!

Like the saying goes, “It may not be easy, but it will be worth it!”
